EverQuest Legends Classes Guide — Pick Your First Trio

Every EverQuest Legends class at a glance — tank, priest, melee, and caster roles before you lock your EQ Legends primary at level 11.

Sixteen EverQuest Legends Classes

EverQuest Legends (EQL) launches with the full classic EverQuest class roster — sixteen classes spanning tanks, priests, melee damage, and casters. Each EQ Legends character activates up to 3 classes at once, creating 560 possible combinations across 15 races.

This EverQuest Legends classes guide explains what each class does, how armor and spell lines work in tri-class setups, and how to narrow choices before character creation. For combination rules see the multiclass guide; for racial restrictions see the races guide; for ranked templates see the EQ Legends tier list.

Only your primary class follows racial restrictions at creation. Secondary and third EQ Legends classes may be any of the other fifteen — the defining flexibility of EverQuest Legends compared to 1999 EverQuest Live.

Class Archetypes in EQ Legends

Group EverQuest Legends classes into five archetypes when theorycrafting. A strong EQ Legends trio usually covers defense, recovery, and damage — not three classes in the same lane.

Tanks (Warrior, Paladin, Shadow Knight) hold aggro and wear plate in most tri-class builds. Priests (Cleric, Druid, Shaman) supply heals, buffs, slows, and haste. Melee DPS (Monk, Rogue, Ranger, Berserker, Beastlord) deliver physical damage and utility.

Casters (Wizard, Magician, Necromancer, Enchanter) bring nukes, pets, DoTs, and crowd control. Hybrids like Bard, Ranger, and Paladin bridge roles — Bard songs auto-maintain without classic song twisting in EQL.

Full EQ Legends Class Reference

The table below lists every EverQuest Legends class with abbreviation, combat role, armor type, and a community tier label for early access. Tier ranks may change after launch patches — confirm on the tier list before rerolling.

Armor column matters for EQ Legends builds: your character wears the best armor type any of your three classes allows. Adding Paladin to a rogue unlocks plate for the entire EverQuest Legends combo.

Spell lines summarize what each class contributes to a tri-class spellbook — not every individual spell name. Full spell tables expand on the wiki spells section after Pre-order Beta datamining.

Tank Classes — Warrior, Paladin, Shadow Knight

Warrior is the pure EverQuest Legends meat shield — Heroic Leap for taunt control and Cleave for AoE threat. EQ Legends warriors excel when you want simple, plate-heavy D0 farming with minimal spell management.

Paladin ranks S-tier for many EQL solo builds: plate, heals, and offensive strike spells in one primary. Paladin + Cleric + Wizard appears on virtually every EverQuest Legends beginner recommendation list.

Shadow Knight adds lifetap, harm touch, and pet tools for self-sufficient tanking. Vampiric Embrace at level 15 and redesigned Scream of Death make SK viable in tri-class lifetank builds paired with Cleric or Shaman.

Priest & Healer Classes

Cleric is the primary EverQuest Legends healer with the most new spell lines at launch — Promise Renewal replaces classic Complete Heal. Every serious D3–D4 EQ Legends build includes cleric or equivalent recovery.

Druid adds ports, nature heals, and DoTs — two new spell lines were disclosed pre-launch. Druid primary enables port-rotation build styles described in the leveling guide.

Shaman supplies slow, haste, buffs, and a spirit pet. Shaman slows remain mandatory for many EverQuest Legends plane raids and high-difficulty instance clears — see the planes guide.

Melee, Caster & Support Classes

Rogue appears in the official EverQuest Legends marketing combo (rogue / paladin / wizard). Backstab works from Any Slot weapons with the highest modifier — rogues anchor many EQ Legends burst builds.

Monk and Berserker cover hand-to-hand and high-risk melee. Berserker is the most reworked melee class in EQL, centered on the namesake Berserker stance that doubles attack speed.

Wizard delivers pure nukes; Magician and Necromancer bring pets and DoTs; Enchanter provides charm and haste — charm can reach unbreakable status on plane targets with enough AA per beta reports.

Bard songs persist without twisting — instrument foci are All/All slots. Beastlord warder pets use warrior/berserker bases. Ranger blends bow and melee with fast-cast spells in close range.

Which EverQuest Legends class is best for solo?

Paladin, Shadow Knight, and Magician-led trios dominate early solo rankings. Exact order shifts by patch — see the tier list Solo tab.

Building Your First Trio

Step one: pick a primary that matches your fantasy and racial preference. Step two: add a secondary that fills a gap — heals if you chose a melee primary, or plate if you chose a caster.

At level 10, add the third class before pushing past level 11. Use the passive 1–10 leveling window to experiment; all sixteen EverQuest Legends classes reach level 10 together during that phase.

Lock primary only after you confirm the role on the EQ Legends tier list. Then tune gear and AA via the builds guide and EverQuest Legends AA guide. New players should start with the beginner guide for UI and stance basics.

  • Do01Select race → primary (race-limited).
  • Do02Pick secondary from any remaining class.
  • Do03Reach level 10 → add third class.
  • Do04Confirm primary before level 11 lock dialog.
  • Do05Save loadouts for farm vs challenge content.
