Multiclass guide
How EverQuest Legends three-class characters, loadouts, and level 10/11 unlock rules work on PC.
EverQuest Legends (EQL) lets each hero activate up to 3 classes at once. You gain stats, spells, and abilities from every active class in your current loadout.
There are 560 possible EQ Legends combinations across sixteen classic EverQuest classes. At character creation you pick race, primary class, deity, and one additional class — two classes from day one.
Your third class slot unlocks at level 10. The official everquestlegends.com example — rogue / paladin / wizard — shows melee, plate, heals, and nukes on one EQ Legends character.
EverQuest Legends is tuned for solo play across Antonica, Faydwer, Odus while still supporting optional four-player groups and eight-player raids.
On the EQ Legends character screen, choose race first — this locks your loadout race until you earn race unlock tokens through gameplay.
Pick a primary class limited by that race (same rules as classic EverQuest). Open the secondary tab: all fifteen other classes are available with no additional restrictions.
Select a deity, name your hero, and enter Norrath. You immediately have two classes — for example warrior / wizard on a dark elf — with spells and abilities from both.
Read the beginner guide for first-session UI tips and the wiki classes table for all sixteen EQ Legends classes.
| Step | EQ Legends choice | Locked when? |
|---|---|---|
| Creation | Race + primary + secondary + deity | Race locked per loadout |
| Level 10 | Third class slot opens | — |
| Level 11 | Primary class + deity lock | Unlock tokens later |
| City only | Swap secondary/third via loadouts | Flexible |
From level 1 through 10, all sixteen classes on your character gain the same experience — even classes not in your active loadout. Use this window to experiment; everything reaches level 10 together.
At level 10, add your third class to your loadout. After level 10, only the two or three classes you are actively using gain XP — but XP is never split; each active class receives the full amount from a kill.
At level 11, the primary class and deity you are currently using lock permanently until you earn unlock tokens. Before level 11 you may freely swap primary and secondary classes inside loadouts to test combinations.
Community beta reports show a confirmation dialog before level 11 — EverQuest Legends asks you to confirm locking your primary class. Do not click through until you are satisfied with your EQ Legends build.

Loadouts are saved presets of race, primary class, secondary class, third class, deity, UI layout, and equipment. Switch loadouts only in city areas to try new EQ Legends combinations without rerolling.
The loadouts tab in your inventory lists all sixteen classes with individual levels. Edit a loadout to swap secondary or third classes — primary options stay within your race until unlocked.
Link UI layouts or equipment sets between loadouts if you want shared hotbars and gear. Otherwise each loadout remembers its own interface and worn items when you switch back.
Origin city per loadout is configurable — where Origin teleports you — tied to race and deity selections. Set bind points with Bind Affinity for efficient EverQuest Legends farming sessions.
EQ Legends gear upgrades to +10 with swappable focus, click, and proc effects. Armor proficiency follows the highest armor tier among your three active EverQuest Legends classes — plate from paladin opens plate for the whole combo.
Beta materials describe Any Slot gear — extra equipment slots (such as an off-hand dagger for backstab) that still grant full stats when rules are met. Exact item lists expand on the wiki after launch.
When you change loadouts, previously saved equipment reloads automatically unless loadouts share a linked gear set. Plan one gear progression path per main EQ Legends preset to avoid constant re-gearing.
| System | EQ Legends rule | Tag |
|---|---|---|
| Armor | Best tier among three classes | Shared |
| +10 upgrades | Focus / click / proc swap | Core |
| Any Slot | Extra weapon/shield slots | Beta |
| Loadout gear | Per-preset memory | QoL |
